Can Cannabis and/or its Derivates Relief Pain?

Updated: Jun 26, 2018

The short answer is YES. Not only can they relief pain, they beat that bastard to a pulp and then send it threatening letters, so it's afraid to come back.

So, the long answer is that the Cannabis plant is highly versatile, as we saw with our past article on the many uses of hemp, many of us know it for its psychoactive and recreational uses and that's fine, but there's a use that not many know; Therapeutic. We will be touching on this subject more in depth in subsequent issues of the Cannijuana Friends Blog and Comic but for now, let's talk about pain relief.

Whether you are a war veteran wounded in combat or you hurt your back trying to throw a Frisbee far enough (shut up, it can happen to anyone!) living with pain can be a tricky thing. Some days you can't even function and so you become a slave to pain relief medication. This is just the ugly tip of the iceberg. You develop what's called a psychological dependence. You are afraid of feeling the pain, and you medicate yourself so you can painlessly perform during your day and this leads to a darker place; Physical dependence. You see, many of these medications such as Oxycodone and Hydrocodone become addictive over time and so the dependence grows. These are the real gateway drugs, not Cannabis. Many people taking these and other Opioids escalate and end up taking Heroin, Morphine and other crap, destroy their lives and end up homeless or dead. And everything because they needed a drug to go about their day. These are not junkies. They are people like you and me, who ended up hooked on a "Legal" drug.

So by now you'd wish there was a less dangerous pain relief medication and there is. And I hate to sound like a shitty, late night infomercial for weed, but it's essentially true and we have 2 main components to thank for this miracle; THC and CBD, also known as Tetrahydrocannabinol and Cannabidiol, respectively. The first one being the better known psychoactive compound found in weed and the second one being non-psychoactive and a little less known.

THC is a strong anti-inflammatory and pain killer, not to mention it can successfully treat brain cancer. CBD, on the other hand is a very good anxiolytic and can also relief pain.

You know what's the best part? Despite all the bad press and miscellaneous bullshit about them, they won't kill you nor ruin your life. You see, Cannabis is not very addictive. In fact it's less addictive than cigarettes, alcohol or even coffee and what's more important, you can't overdose on it. You simply can't. It's literally IMPOSSIBLE. Sadly I can't say the same about Oxycodone or Hydrocodone, so next time you think about pain relief, maybe you'd like to consider the humble Marijuana plant.
