With all the noise that big pharma is making about their "miraculous" remedies, Medical Cannabis is often left behind, stigmatised and sadly overlooked as an alternative to treat many ailments. Its properties are enough to deserve a post of their own, but in this one, I just want to address how it's being purposefully ignored in favour of more popular, yet far more expensive choices.
If you want to be conservative, its cancer-treating properties are debatable, even though it has show time and again huge benefits treating numerous cancers, there's always room for debate because there isn't enough studies. Why you might ask? The damn thing is so controversial that no self-respecting physician will touch Medical Cannabis with a 10ft pole, so I get that there isn't enough studies about its anti-cancer properties. Its properties as an anxiolytic, antidepressant and painkiller on the other hand, are without question one of the best if not THE best alternative to treat a number of disorders in a safe manner. For starters, you can't overdose on it. You simply can't. It does not generate a physical addiction and it's cheap to produce and even with state taxes, should be affordable to everyone. Yet Medical Cannabis is STILL a demonized drug almost worldwide! In contrast, Methadone (Dolophine), Oxycodone (Oxycontin), Hydrocodone (Vicodin) and Fluoxetine (Prozac) caused over 63,600 deaths by overdose in 2016. What's more, Cannabis is often referred to as "The Gateway Drug" but far more people have gotten addicted to Meth and Heroin through Methadone and Oxycodone, both of which unfortunately DO generate strong addictions. Both of which led its users to try their street versions and completely trash their lives.
Maybe Medical Cannabis isn't as glamorous and it doesn't come in neatly packaged pills (yet anyways) but it sure as hell can't claim 63k deaths a year.
