In what appears to be a k̶i̶c̶k̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶a̶l̶l̶s̶ infringement to freedom of speech, campaigners warned that a law called the EU Copyright Directive could outright ban the use of Memes on the internet. Which is funny, 'cause THAT'S WHAT THE DAMN INTERNET IS KNOWN FOR!! This could mean the beginning of oh so many issues for all of us. Mainly bloggers/vloggers, because of the obvious use of memeable content, but also for the regular guy, such as you because a meme is a somewhat loose term. Heck, a random picture is a meme if you want it to be and therefore you can be prosecuted for as little as posting the picture of a random politician or public figure with a note making fun of him. Not to mention that for this to work they said they'd have to monitor everything you upload to the Internet. 'Cause trampling your freedom of speech isn't enough, you need to get your privacy raped as well.
Now, you might be saying right now "well, this is America, this doesn't affect me, that's happening in Europe!" but you'd be sadly mistaken if you think it really doesn't. See, this would be a precedent. This law passes over there and next thing you know they'll bring it here. And again, you may think "This doesn't affect me" because you are not a meme person but like I said, this could be slapped over almost anything and then you can get prosecuted for as little as saying anything bad about the establishment or anyone famous. So keep an eye on this issue and when it finally knocks on your door, don't let it happen, for Christ sake! Just remember what happened to Net Neutrality.
